Adult Day Program respite is ideal if you are looking for a few hours to run some errands, attend an appointment, or get some caregiver relief for yourself while the person in your care attends a structured day program in a community-based setting. Adult Day Programs promote wellness, dignity and enhance quality of life through supervised recreational and social activities, meals, personal care and basic health care services tailored to the needs of the person you support and may be offered as full or partial days.

What services are available?

  • Safe and secure environment
  • Medication reminders and/or assistance
  • Assistance with activities of daily living, including assistance with eating, toileting, mobility (walking), and transferring
  • Flexible hours
  • Snack, meal and beverages (including special diets)
  • A variety of programs and services
  • Relief for persons providing care at home

Adult Day Programs are available in a variety of locations in Mississauga, Halton and South Etobicoke and all residents who require the support are welcome to access any program regardless of where they live. Adult Day Programs cater to the different language and cultural needs of clients.

Who is eligible for services?

Adult Day Programs are available to those who

  • Live at home (e.g., house, apartment, retirement home)
  • Are having difficulty with activities of daily living (e.g., dressing, toileting
  •  In need of help with activities of daily living (e.g., dressing, toileting, eating, etc.)
  •  Would benefit from a regularly scheduled period of time outside the home in a supervised environment.

Other criteria may apply, depending on which agency is providing the services. Adult Day Programs are sensitive to the needs of people living with memory loss, Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia, a physical disability or chronic health conditions.

There is a fee to attend Adult Day Programs, and these fees may vary between programs. In some cases, a fee subsidy may be available.
